Texas Properties

Sherron Associates    Texas Properties

Parkside Townhomes - one of several sites for property management company Sherron Associates' Texas properties.

Text and graphic information for this site is stored in a database, making it quick and easy to produce several sites using the same format. Content for the various sites is simply entered into the database, drastically reducing the cost of formatting each individual site, as well as providing for easy content editing by the client.

It is a good idea to occasionally redesign a web site to keep it "fresh". An additional advantage of this design is that a redesign later on would only need to be made once for all of the client's web sites.

The real meat of this project is in the "Manager's Editor", where the individual apartment managers are able to keep current vacancies and other content up-to-date.

This site uses PHP and a MySQL database.

Butler Investigations

Butler Investigations    Seattle, Washington

Butler Investigations decided to revamp the original site we did for them in 2004, with a brand-new Web site that went live on January 1st, 2008.

When translations are completed, this will be a bi-lingual site. Just as the previous site, languages can be changed from any page, at any time.

Butler Investigations chose a 40's/50's photo theme for this project. Some of these older photos were enhanced by DataBoy for better online display - some backgrounds were taken out or simplified; contrasts were enhanced; photos were sharpened; sepia tone was added.

This very standards-compliant Web site was completely developed using Cascading Style Sheets technology.

Bokrosh Studio

Bokrosh Studio    Seattle, Washington

This is a remake of an existing site. The focus was to provide better search engine ranking as well as to improve the look and feel of the site.

The original site contained a Flash™ intro page with a sliding graphic menu to display the artist's sculptures. There were also Flash navigational menus throughout the site. After consulting with Search Engine Optimization expert Dan Guay at HayMeadows.com, it was decided that the Flash into screen had to go. The Flash drop-down menu was also replaced with a JavaScript menu to condense page head room. Alternately, a pleasing text-based navigation menu is displayed for non-JavaScript users. Much improved search engine rankings were achieved without losing the artistic feel of the site.

The entire site was re-coded for a more pleasing display, and the new code was optimized and commented to provide for easier future upgrades and changes and, more importantly, once again, to help improve search engine ranking. Fonts and other styles were changed and graphics were enhanced and added throughout the site to provide a more interesting and easier to read display.

Artwork photos, which had been copied from photographic slide film to digital format were dull and off color. These were brought back to life using several photo-enhancement techniques.

Using Cascading Style Sheets, and browser and resolution detection, this site is optimized to display well in various popular browsers at various screen resolutions.

Ferlin Husky Web Site

Ferlin Husky    Nashville, Tennessee

Grande Ole Opry Star Ferlin Husky wanted a site that was clean and simple, for fan and promotion contact.

We came up with a design that utilizes Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript to quickly change content within a single, varying length picture frame.

The site includes information for fans and promoters, as well as a guestbook. The Guestbook is provided free with our web hosting packages. We customized it to blend in with the design of the site.

The site also includes a shopping cart for record sales and other fan items.

Using Cascading Style Sheets, and browser and resolution detection, this site is optimized to display well in various popular browsers at various screen resolutions.

Daughters of Zion Web Site

Daughters of Zion    Washington / Oregon

This site, as with most sites we do, features a drop-down menu made with pure CSS - no JavaScript. This means that search engines like Google will be able to read the menu and incorporate the menu selections as keywords. It also means less page load time.

Since the geographical areas of membership groups are divided by Congressional districts, attractive color-coded maps are provided, accessible from the Washington and Oregon Directors pages. Membership lists on these pages are easy to edit with simple changes to a spreadsheet holding the information. An upload utility is provided, allowing easy access.

Once editing - additions or changes - is completed, a few clicks of the mouse will upload the file to the server, and the site changes are made.

The "News" page, containing links to other Web sites, can also be edited in the same manner.

The Prayer page contains scriptures hidden from view for easy reference and to keep with the clean, simple feel of the site. Clicking an icon brings these passages into view.

A simple, but fast and attractive photo gallery can be found on some of the events pages.

OnMark Properties Web Site

OnMark Properties    Seattle, Washington

OnMark Properties is a DataBoy Company catering to the property management industry.

The site contains a considerable amount of information about the company while providing the visitor quick and easy access to their area of interest.

Large text buttons on the Home page bring visitors direct to the areas of most popular interest, while a sleek, modern drop-down top menu provides consistent page-to-page navigation.

The Pricing page features an in-page calculator that changes and tabulates several rows and columns of figures without using the common method of re-loading the page in order to change its content. This provides results that are quick, responsive and seamless.

A web ad template maker is also an addition to this web site, allowing customers to create and customize their web ads.

Hilltop House Web Site

Hilltop House Retirement Community    Seattle, Washington

When Hilltop House decided they needed a new presence on the Web, they called on us to create a new Web site.

A new header and greatly enhanced logo were created, and the entire site was redone.

HTML frames (where one part of the page is independent from the rest) are, generally, bad news for commercial web sites, for a number of reasons. With this site, using Cascading Style Sheets and a bit of trickery, we were able to create a frame effect without using actual HTML frames - thus, avoiding the negative effects.

The frame effect allows the visitor to scroll the page content, while the menu stays in place. With the side menu always in full view, site navigation is simplified and always available.

This site also features an activity calendar, written in PHP. For those with poor eyesight, a list view of the calendar is also provided. The page shows Current, Previous and Next month calendars.

On the downside of Adobe Acrobat Reader's PDF format is the fact that you can create forms that a user can fill out and print, but the user has no way of saving that filled out form. This prevents the ability to send a completed form via e-mail, or any of the other advantages inherent in the ability to save a file. On the Volunteer Form page, we provide the ability to save the completed form in Adobe PDF format. This was done using the PHP programming language and Adobe's recently released information on the PDF format.

A Flash photo gallery may be seem on the Gallery page.

The Freedom Mint

The Freedom Mint    Chicago, IL

The Freedom Mint sells commemorative gold and silver coins.

Complimentary page colors give the site a pleasing feel, while the black header background serves to provide a stark and complimentary contrast to the gold and silver lettering and graphic.

The site features a PayPal shopping cart, and a safe and secure message contact form.

Although some tables were utilized, the majority of this site uses CSS for style as well as structure.

Mountain Meadows Apartments

Mountain Meadows Apartments    Puyallup, Washington

This is one of several sites done for property management company Sherron Associates of Bellevue, Washington. The focus was to provide easily accessible information pertaining to the properties, as well as the surrounding community.

A utility was written to provide property management the ability to edit some content so that information on current specials and apartment availability may be inserted.

A MapQuest form on the "Directions" page allows the user to enter their origin address and obtain step-by-step directions to the apartment complex location.

LaGuardia Self Storage

LaGuardia Self Storage    Sante Fe, New Mexico

Focus on this site was in providing useful storage and moving information which may not be found on competitor's sites.

The "Tips and Tools" page contains a wealth of information within a simple, nicely formatted page to allow the user to display only the information they need. This was done using JavaScript and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

The site contains a "Size Estimator" calculator, written in JavaScript. This routine uses many variables to determine whether an item is stackable or requires "headroom", etc., in order to give an estimation that is as accurate as possible. Once the potential customer has entered their information, they may choose to send this form to the facility manager, along with their email address and phone number. The mailform program is written in PHP.

"Pop-up" window on Home page ("Current Specials" button) again uses CSS, making it invisible to pop-up blockers. The facility manager may edit the contents of this pop-up.

Using CSS, and browser and resolution detection, this site is optimized to display well in various popular browsers at various screen resolutions.

EzRabbit Web Hosting

EzRabbit Web Hosting    Seattle, Washington

This is our own hosting service.

We used a template for the home page on this site, although the end product is barely recognizable from the original.

Site includes a PayPal™ shopping cart for subscription services and credit card processing.

Scan Monkey

ScanMonkey    DataBoy Software

ScanMonkey is our own little search utility, written in PHP. We use this utility (among other things) to check how our client's sites are faring with popular search engines. We've found it so useful that we decided to make it available to the public, as ScanMonkey.com.

We listed this site here to show the beauty of PHP. This is all done with a small, one-page script, pulling information from a database.

The user enters their search term only once to produce results from several sites, either as links or individual frames on the same page.

Earth Clothes

Earth Clothes    Seattle, Washington

This is my own small sideline selling sweaters from Ecuador

Just a quick, simple site with a PayPal™ shopping cart.

I included this site here for an example of a low cost retail shopping cart site.

This would be ideal for a small shop, artist or craftsperson with a limited budget and a small number of items to sell.
