Buddy Logan

My name is Buddy Logan. DataBoy is a company I first established in 1991, designing custom software for the small office. The most notable of these was "TimeCard", a database-centered MS-DOS time card calculator that allowed for quick calculation in various time card formats, as well as data storage, overtime and vacation pay tracking and a host of other features. I have been writing computer programs for over 20 years.

In 1993 I accepted a position as a programmer and Data Processing Manager for national freight company Midwest Motor Express, in Bismarck, North Dakota. There, I wrote software for manifesting, billing, maintenance and other freight operations, as well as managing data entry personnel spread across the country.

Some of these data entry personnel were experienced computer users, and many were not. Although the company is spread across the country, we had a small IT department. I needed to find a quick and efficient way to provide useful instructions for employees so that the computer staff was not spending all day on the phone. I designed many instructive, interactive computer tutorials to help employees get through their day with data entered precisely and accurately. This experience also helped me to understand that, due to the nature of their duties, many people never go past what is required of them to do their job. They learn the basics of the computer tool and, beyond that, they just want it to work for them. (Which, of course, is how it should be!) If they have to struggle with the computer, they would be just as efficient going back to their paper and filing cabinet.

Design@DataBoySoftware.com

DataBoy was re-established in 2003 as a web design company with the knowledge of this experience well in mind. Our web sites are always designed with visual and technical simplicity in mind - at least - where it interfaces with the user. The user may be you, or it may be your customer.

One thing a starting programmer soon discovers is that - no matter how complicated the program - 1/4 of your time will be spent writing the guts of the program. The rest of the time (if you want your program to be user-friendly) will be spent designing the interface to make it easy for the user to access the data. The greatest program in the world is not worth a whole lot if the intended user can not figure out how to make it work!

I go into web design with this thought in mind, and it is always at the core of my design work. You may have a wealth of information to impart to your internet visitor, but (and this is especially true in this medium) if that information is not presented in a pleasing and easy-to-find manner, they will soon be looking somewhere else.

My focus, as an individual, is on design. I will personally meet with you, whether by phone, email, or in person. Together, we will map a strategy for your web site, and come up with a design and a flat price that fits your needs. For the most part, from the design phase to completion of your site, I will be working directly with you to see that everything is moving along to your satisfaction. I will also be doing most of the coding, whether it be HTML, PHP, JavaScript or other processes.

Behind me, are a number of graphic designers and programmers I network with for specific tasks. I do because they are darned good, and better than I am at what they do, and I always want to give my clients the best that I can.

Having an on-call staff also allows me the ability to taylor talent according to your needs. For instance, if you are building an e-commerce web site and need a logo that is going to attract the attention of potential customers, you might want a different graphic artist than if you were, say, a Heavy-Metal Rock band, and vice versa.

This "About Us" page is about all of us. DataBoy brings you the talents of many people - from Coeur d'Alene to New York, and sometimes beyond. All at a price that you can afford.
